The ministry of ushers is the oldest lay ministry in the Catholic Church. The ushers of today have descended from a long line of people of God who have gone before them. During the time of Christ, the doorkeepers of the temple numbered in the hundreds and were the forerunners of today’s ushers. Today's ushers are Ministers of Hospitality and with the clergy, are the official hosts of the weekend masses and other events. By their presence, conversation and actions, ushers make all who come to the liturgical celebration feel welcome.

Duties of the Ushers:
- Arrive 15 - 20 minutes before mass
- Ensure that pews and Church are in order
- Greet and welcome at the main entrance
- Seat people as needed
- Assist in placing “Reserved” signs on benches for special groups
- Assist in opening doors for the children attending Children's Liturgy of the Word
- Take up/manage the collection
- Help the Communion Procession flow and in informing Eucharistic Ministers of those who cannot join the Communion Procession
- Assist those who become ill or need aid
- Open and close the entrance doors to the Church
- Providing bulletins to people as they leave
- Prepare the pews and Church for the next Mass
- Performing other duties as requested by the Celebrant

To serve as a minister at the celebration of the Eucharist is a privilege to which you have been called. Ushers are an integral part of the Mass and our parish community. Above all, ushers should be noted for their care to the assembly.
Do you have the qualities of a great usher? If so, we are always open to training new ushers.
Apperance is also a very important part of this ministry, since ushers are the first official representatives of the church seen by the people entering the building. Ushers must be welcoming, caring and friendly. The usher's attire should also be considered and business casual at minimum.
